Painted Tattoo Design Doodles

In my potential tattoo design I'm trying to include  the word "Love" because of the "To Write Love on Her Arms" campaign to raise awareness of depression/suicide and encourage people to get help when they need it. I also want to express that "It's always darkest before the dawn", that there is always hope in life, and that while your life may seem to be burning to ashes around you, you can always be reborn--stronger and better--from those same ashes. Freedom and soaring to new heights of emotion and success are also concepts that I'd kind of like to convey. It seems to me to be a lot to fit into one image. But these are my attempts so far...

Photo taken with my camera phone, it came out better than I thought it would. The words written on the wings and body are "Hope", "Love", "Bright" and "Life"

Photo below taken with my camera phone. It came out better than I was expecting. The words on the wings read "Life" [Left] and "Love" [Right]. This was my second doodle. I think it's a bit better than the first.

Hi, I wandered here from the different roads discussion about your tattoo questions!

I definitely feel your second doodle has a much stronger composition, plus I love that you included the Phoenix. You might consider bringing the flames up to frame her hands, so they will stand out from your own skin tone. You would certainly need a largish flat area to not lose parts of this design to your body's curves...the back seems like a no-brainer to me, but try a few other areas just in case. I also like the rising sun, both for the graphic look of it, and for the symbolism of new daylight=hope. Most of the time tattoos wind up with visible outlines around all the distinct shapes...In this drawing's case I think that will actually look very good, but try doing a test version with hard outlines to make sure you like that effect.

Not enough people use orange and blue together...its a personal favorite of mine. Unfortunately you cant see the bright orange sunrise at the bottom of "The Early Bird Gets the Coffee" as I had to crop it out to make my icon!

I hope this helps. Will you be posting pics of the "finished product"?

If/When I get a tattoo done, either my own design or another artist's I will post a pic/pictures or the finished and healed up work as this (LJ in general) is currently the only forum I'll have to display it.
